Considered the gateway to the Texas Hill Country, Buda and its neighboring Kyle sit seventeen miles or so south of downtown Austin and a bit to the north of San Marcos. While both are individual incorporated cities, many locals refer to them as "Buda-Kyle." This primarily rural area is rich with wildlife.

The convenient geographic location combined with slower paced lifestyle draws families seeking homes on larger lots.

The Buda-Kyle area has experienced record business and population growth the past couple of years. With over 14,500 residents, numerous residential communities, and an additional 10,000 platted lots on the way, Kyle is the second largest city in Hays County. In preparation for the expected growth, plans for two hotels, a movie theater, at least eight restaurants, and dozens of additional retail stores are in the works.

Even though this area has a country feel you will still find plenty of resources for purchasing everyday items. Anything else you might need is located only a short drive away in Austin. I-35 is the main means of transportation into town and can become quite congested during morning and afternoon commuting hours otherwise, the drive is rather short.

One of the world's foremost outfitters of outdoor sporting gear, Cabela's, opened a giant store nearby in 2005 and is expected to attract many out of town visitors. At its site, the Balcones Escarpment meets the Blackland prairie; to the east there is farming and to the west, ranching.
